Things are moving!

Currently the S&P500 is at all time highs, and Bitcoin is on the verge.

The public portfolio obviously has exposure to both, so our number are shooting up.

Also got a nice cash injection this month, which I’ll talk about below.

Niche sites

Since starting the public portfolio in 2020, I’ve had 3 niche sites feeding capital in.

One was a site I started many years ago, and the other two were sites I started building from scratch specifically for moneybren.

Since then, niche sites have contributed around $17,000 of capital to the public portfolio.

However, I personally am trying to cut back on the time I spend on niche sites.

The first site I referred to that I built years ago does not require any maintenance, and brings in about $200-$500 per month, so I’m happy to hold onto that, both for financial and sentimental reasons!

The other two sites also bring in revenue every month, but would require a significant amount of work to get them to the next level.

I’m simply not in that phase of my journey anymore where I’m spending hours every day building a niche site. I’m blessed to have gotten myself to a point where the ROI is higher for me to spend that time researching stocks and reading – higher level things that move the needle more.

Therefore, a couple of months ago I decided to sell one of the sites, and probably sell the other one eventually this year too.

I’m happy to report that the site sold last month, and I received the final settlement a few days ago!

My final amount received for the site after fees and so on was $4,200 NZD.

This has gone straight into the public portfolio, and I’ll be using it to purchase stock in a business that is more passive and has more potential than a little niche site!

I wrote more about the sale, the process, and my reasons for selling in this article.

The other niche site is the one I’ve been writing about in this series, and eventually I plan to sell that one too.

If you’re at the start of your wealth journey and looking for something to work on, I think niche sites are a great starting place. They have the potential to make you a good passive income, and as you can see, you will be building an asset you can eventually sell as well! Crypto is back!

Bitcoin breached $60k USD last month and we’re now on the verge of reaching new highs.

Historically we’ve seen that when new highs are breached, the sky really is the limit.

The price rockets high and fast.

The public portfolio has had Bitcoin exposure for about a year and it has since grown to the largest position, occupying about 15% of the allocation.

I’m guessing that will rise significantly this year as the Bitcoin price discovers new highs.

Stocks

The S&P500 is breaching new highs daily.

However, there is some nuance to be aware of here.

Most of the S&P 500 movement is attributed to the “Magnificent 7” stocks – Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Tesla, Nvidia, Meta and Google, which make up about 40% of the weighting.

So while I believe the S&P 500 is likely overvalued here, it doesn’t mean all stocks are overvalued.

In small caps, especially in NZ and Aus, there are many stocks trading at cheap valuations with quality earnings.

The public portfolio is heavily weighted in these, such as Sky TV and Summerset, and I am continuing to accumulate.

I do not have much cash on the sidelines at the moment, as I find these stocks much more attractive than owning cash right now.

Playing the long game as always!
